It’s an excellent book. I read it as a supporting text when I was being taught Platoon command (not very grand - only MTQ2 for those in the know).

Rommel goes through each of his WWI battles, comparing his estimate and plan with what actually ocurred. It might be a little dry for some people. I found it fascinating, and I did learn from it. Apparently it was required reading for US Officers during WW2, which is why it was translated to English.

My only complaint with the book (and it’s a traslation issue, not something Rommel said) is the use of the phrase ‘hit the dirt’ when ‘took cover’ would have been more appropriate. It’s the only idiom I noticed in the book and it jars horribly wherever it is used.
