Josef "Pips" Priller might be known to some from the movie "The longest day". He was the German pilot who was sent against the allied beachheads with just his "Kaczmarek" with him. He was (in a quite disadvantageous way IMO) portrayed by German actor Heinz Reincke. Colonel Priller (101 victories/~1300 missions) died of a heart attack in 1961 aged 45. There are still streets named after him in Germany.
