The Junkers Ju-88 was a multi-role aircraft which entered service with the Luftwaffe in 1939. It was used as a bomber, night fighter, heavy fighter, dive bomber, torpedo bomber and reconnaissance aircraft with over 15,000 being built during the war.

The early versions of the Ju-88 first saw action in Poland and Norway to a limited degree, but much greater numbers were available for the Battle of France and Battle of Britain. There were various modifications and improvements during the war with over 30 versions and sub-versions made.

The Ju-88 A-4 was armed with up to 6 x 7.92mm machine guns, and carried up to 3,000Kg of bombs internally. The G-1 carried 4 x 20mm cannon and 2 or 4 x 7.92mm machine guns.

Is interesting to see how the NachtJäger cammo evolved from a dark black to an almost white pale grey. Nice work clave.

I found that odd… but I guess solid black is not that good a camouflage even if you are flying at night…

a suggestion to remove the nose guns on the G-1 version as it did not have any, they were housed just like the G-6 version in an under fuselage gun bay. profiles look good in fact your torpedo bomber is one of my fav’s ever and I am very pickey

the results of changing from the all black to light blue-grey, dirty white camo was the result of the skies being illuminated by ground based fires and searchlights over and close to the target areas.

I read that are Nazi studies on mimetism that found that at night for terrain operation in the open landscape the color black is not usefull but it can be dangerous, with a bit of light (like the star light) dark objects are easily to find against skyies. For night operations this studies suggest a dark grey for operations in urban space with lot of artificial light and light grey/white for operation in ambient where the only source of lights are moon and stars. For me it’s very singular learn things that seem intuitive but not true at all, like use pink for reconnaissance airplanes.
