It takes an enormous amount of power to get a car’s front wheels off the ground.

Apparently this is how you go to work each morning. 
Hummer 2 is nothing like the H-1. just a poor cosmetic rendering of one. its really just a pick up truck chassis with a fairly ugly body on it. The H3 is the same, differing only in that it uses the chassis of an S-10 (small) pickup truck. These are a pure waste of money. The clip shows what the H-2 wishes it were.
Why any civilian wants a Hummer of any sort is beyond me.
They make a Land Rover look refined. And possibly even slightly reliable.
People would do much better in the truck this thing is built on, and for far less money.( even though they may have to do without the Ermine cup holders…)
How to drive to work each morning without Ermine cup holders and V8?
Oh, you get the V-8 engine,just have to deal with no ermine cup holders, fewer video screens, and six way, instead of 12 way electric adjustable seats. (but they would still be heated).
I know an unfortunate soul who thought he was posh buying a Hummer 2, thing’s nothing but junk wearing out the road back to the dealership service area…
You cannot begin to imagine how much that pleases me.

Germany has contributed much to the world, including Clausewitz, Goethe, Schiller, Kant, Nietsche, Heidegger, Hegel, Wagner, Durer, Holbein, Gropius, Riefenstahl, Fassbinder, Wenders, Luther, Bonhoeffer, and so on, but nothing ranks with Germany’s contribution of the word for which there is no English equivalent and which gives us so much guilty pleasure: Schadenfreude.
Personally, I really tend to not like SUVs, but the H2 is nothing but junk and wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. That’s why GM sold it to the Chinese.
The Chinese were already selling a copy of the H-2, the sale just made it legal…good luck to them…
Russia has a park of Hummers ( all of models) up to 5000. And some of rich still want to buy this monster.They seems aren’t afraid ot its fuel “economy”
So China obviously would has found a market for their unregistered “copies” of Hummers:)
Considering the H2 is just a RangeRover in drag, it’s no wonder the Chinese are trying to knockoff copies of the thing, legitimate or otherwise. The SmartforTwo copy was proof enough of that.
I’d own an H1 for the sake of interest. But after that, the Hummer fell into banal-crap territory from which it will likely never emerge.
There is a Russian-built vehicle very similar to an H1, called “Tigr” if I recall correctly.
It is a very solid, reliable looking vehicle.
As for Lada Niva: the most interesting one of those I have ever seen is somewhere on “English-Russia” Site::

The H-1 is a great machine, but became too expensive to be a good seller. (except to the military,in its own version) All the other H’s were just cobbled up to have a place to staple the name. Personally, I have always found the name to be suspect, like the Toyota TRD series of trucks. (appearantly, the Japanese don’t know about the Anglo American penchant for making words out of acronyms.)

The GAZ has developed the “american analog” of H1 for Russian Army. Sad, that forgot the Russian army is a destitute army…

I’d gladly own one of the Tigr vehicles as well, mate.
It seems to be a very capable vehicle, and solidly reliable.
As for Ladas in Australia and NZ: Don’t worry: they did invade, and though in small numbers, rather successfully.
Though in some motoring circles they were looked-down upon, in fact they were rather more reliable at the time than many of the vehicles coming out of the UK, which were by then still being imported.
I recall them as being plain, unassuming, and sturdy vehicles, be they the 2105, 2110, or Niva or Cossack (same as Niva, just slightly better upholstery and trim level).
They were also significantly cheaper to buy, and easier to maintain.
A person could have done a lot worse than owning a Lada at the time:
Peugots and Renaults spring to mind as being bad bets, despite being rather speedy vehicles they weren’t greatly reliable and getting parts for them was a total bastard of a task.
