Landrover replacement

Does anyone know anything about this new Iveco replacement for the Landrover and how many of the Europena nations intend to use it?

Ive been hearing about it for the last couple of years but havent heard anything about release dates (in that they are constantly rolled back)

This might be a better post on another forum, but if we are trying to tamp down the peat, and move on…

Well, for only GBP 10 million each, I’m sure we’ll have the best, network-enabled, effect-centred, joint-force all-arms FFPV (Future Four Seater Vehicle) in NATO to replace the entire Land Rover fleet. Although, we’ll only be able to afford ten of them.

Do you mean the Panther?

Aye, that is the Badger, (well panther) has anyone seen or heard anything about it save for the Press releases?

Aren’t they merely using it as a scout vehicle, not to “replace” Land Rover as such.

I think the Germans are introducing a wheeled scout equivalent to our warriors. Which looks a bit similair (I cant remember the exact name)

But I was lead to believe that the panther was a liason and utility vehicle, Im not sure what a liason vehicle actually does! but the term stuck in my mind.

Ah liaison, then it will be used to get the beer in I presume, and looks like it can carry a lot of Stella too.

That would be the Dingo I believe, seen them around Munster look impressive.

ahh,the ol` and good Unimog!.
thanks for writing it “German”

They say that they use commercial Unimog chassis, both for their proven off road performance and to keep costs down, but that the vehicle includes a special deflector beneath to deflect the blast of land mines, they say that this protection hasn’t been reached so far. You’ll notice that it also has a high road clearance. It is armoured against small arms fire (though I don’t know if it will withstand a hit by an RPG).

If I remember correctly the Bundeswehr came under fire a few years ago after several soldiers were killed in a landmine explosion and it was discovered that their troop carriers don’t provide enough protection against mine blasts.

Perhaps they should buy some Casspirs and Ratels ‘off the shelf’ ?

Now you know that’s not how procurement works, would be far too simple.

This was the German one that I was thinking of, infact It looks and sounds the B’s Knees!

But still no word on when that Iveco Unit is going to arrive?

Taxi for officers and spare vehicle for Bratty runs, bit like the good old Ferrets.
