M50 Reising

Picture of a US Marine holding a M50 Reising in Bougainville I DO NOT OWN THIS PICTURE

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.ww2incolor.com/gallery/us-marines/57673/m50-reising

Is this a Marine Raider? The M50 was pretty rare due to its comparative complexity and costliness and was used in small numbers, I thought mainly by elite marine formations…

Although thousands of Reisings were issued to the navy and marines, they were not as effective as the Thompson submachine gun under combat conditions. The Reising had a very low tolerance to sand and dirt in front line use. In its favor, the Reising was cheaper to produce and lighter than a Thompson.
