Machine gunner

An American soldier gives a great big smile for the Signal Corps photographer. He's manning an air-cooled M1919A4 .30-caliber machine gun from an improvised bunker. The thirty-one-pound machine gun was mounted on an M2 tripod that weighed fourteen pounds. - France, 1944.

Nice 'photo. Just trying to work out what the improvised bunker was improvised from - some sort of wrecked vehicle involved, perhaps ? Best regards, JR.

There seems to be a house in the background(blurred brick wall? and window). So perhaps he used a door/windowframe.Looks like wooden boards in front under the ammo.Above his head, could be metal sheets who knows :)Not much for protection unless it’s for keeping rain out of his neck.
