Muddy Russian Road

Unpaved roads in the USSR proved to very difficult to pass in the fall and the spring, as these Red Army soldiers well know.

The “rasputitsa” (season of mud). The fact that many of the roads were unmetalled or unpaved in Russia was to the Russians advantage. It helped slow down the Axis advances and resupply of their armies in '41 and '42.
