Need help to identify what I believe is type 30 carbine

My dad brought home from WWII. It’s got 18 inch barrel and from pictures I’ve found looks just like type 30 carbine. Only catch is it appears caliber is larger than 6.5mm. Appears to be 7.7mm or larger.

Any help confirming exactly what gun is would be appreciated.

Any photos may help.

As FF says pictures would be helpful. Some weapons may have been adapted to accept larger rounds that were maybe more available on the battlefield.

Gun looks like Type 30. Is carbine configuration. Caliber is over 30.

I do know the Japanese experimented with a variety of calibers, 7.7mm being the biggest.
