Need some research help! Geology and WW2

Im looking for any links papers … etc dealing with geology and WW2! These would be interesting for all. Example: You wouldnt want to build a bomb shelter made of sandstone or shale. A good reason Germany didnt invade Switzerland is because of the heavily mountainous terrain that would be easlily defenseable.

So please anything you come across please post it here! Thanks

A really good place to start is the following book, which you may be able to get through your library:

Military Geology in War and Peace, edited by James r Underwood Jr and Peter L Guth, Geological Society of America, 1998, ISBN 0-8137-4113-0

This is vol XIII in the “Reviews In Engineering Geology” Series by the GSA.

Some chapters deal specifically with WW2 (like the one detailing the geology of OVERLORD), some cover a period which includes WW2 and some cover other periods.
