This is a good reminder of how vital engineer units are to the efficiency of any army. The line of sight of the camera is over the original bridge, probably destroyed by retreating forces. From the PzKw IV F2, this dates circa mid 1942.

A Kastenrager-Great (K-Gerat) pontoon bridge, German version of the British Small Box Girder Bridge.
