One laptop per child (charity)

Here is your chance to help out children from the third world nation for buying a personal computer for them. Xogiving has made a personal computer so cheap that it would cost only 100 dollars to produce, but yet it might have more function that your computer, it can go to internet via wi-fi, or mesh network, it has its own webcam, stereo speakers, game pads. The computer benifits the child by providing them a good computer that could also acts like a textbook, so potentially they could say bye-bye to all those heavy books on their back, the contrast can be set to low that it would not hurt their eyes when they are trying to read from the monitor. Moreoever the batteries last for 6-24 hours and it has a life time of 2000 charges. It also comes with a solar power panel, where you can charge the computer by sunlight if electricity is a luxury in certain area

You too can purchase the computer starting from november 12 for two weeks. The idea is that you buy 2 computers (for 400 dollars), you will get one computer and the company will send one computer to a poor child in a developing country in your behave. This is their official website (http://www.xogiving.org) and here is a video talking about this computer. All currency is on US dollars.

Interesting stuff. Could be a good toy for reading e-books on the move etc, although I suppose you would have to download them from the Net as it has no HD etc where would it store them???

If i am correct, i think there is a 1GB flash drive in the computer.

That is a mighty fine gesture on their part. I’m sure there are many bright minds waiting for a chance to take on the world in those countries.

But…

I think my money would be better spent helping homeless people and underprivileged children in my own country before I would send money or educational tools overseas.
