According to a news outlet, this plane was crash landed on the beach, and unable to recover it, the military decided to strip it, and abandon it. So it has been snug in the mud for all these years. Though its "salvaged " condition is suspect, it is in fair good shape, and is expected to be recovered for a museum exhibit. The pic is from the news story.
yes, i have heard of this happening many times before in the pacific, the planes are too deep in the mud to be pulled out and too far from shore for any trucks to do the towing, its a damn shame
Surely is, a lot of good equipment went that way, no problem then, just get another one, but today, its like finding a treasure.hope its in good enough shape to exhibit.
