P-51 Mustangs

Ground crews at an Eighth Airforce base in England watch as P-51 Mustangs return from a mission over Normandy. The stark black-and-white "invasion stripes" were painted on all Allied aircraft except large four engine bombers, during the campaign. If an air-craft appeared without the stripes, it was assumed to be hostile and immediately attacked. (scanned by HOS Bandit)
