This system (FG 1250) did not actually help the gunner see at night as he had no receiver for the equipment. It allowed the commander to have a better night vision and direct the gunner (range approx 400m).

The British had ‘Tabby’ IR System in use for drivers and recce units long before this system was in use by the Germans (as well as binoculars).
