Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus

The last photo of Maus in Nazi-hands. The largest tank in the world. Weight:188t, main weapon: 128 mm KwK44 L/55 and 75 mm KwK 44 L/36.5. Front armor:240mm! (twice that of a tiger) Perhaps the best tank for defense of cities. During the war he was not involved in the fighting (an accident during transport to Berlin).

Hmm, like so many things in our lives, research and our ingenuity were the reason to this tank. To call it useless or a waste is perhaps reasonable seventy years late but then again, it was but a bit of steel in the utter madness that was rampant in those days.

Even back then it was pointless, looking at the leaps Germany made in other areas of technology their later super heavy tank ideas were resource hogs that could never pay off.

Defense of cities? I don’t know, I imagine that it would be hard to maneuver this thing on anything but main streets.
