They took heavy losses on Crete but proved the utility of paratroop forces. Perhaps he is blowing the bugle in honor of his fallen comrades?

I wouldn’t say that Crete proved the utility of paratroopers. It was more or less a fiasco, a Pyrrhic victory at best.Because of Crete, the German High Command chose to never again invade with airborne troops only.
