PC Security

With users getting issues from the picture site recently I thought it might be a useful idea to post what security apps are used/recommended by fellow site users. Might even help out some users keep their personal data safe.

My current setup:
Eset Smart Security
http://www.eset.com/us/home/products/smart-security/
Malwarebytes (Free Version)
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
SuperantiSpyware (Free Version)
http://www.superantispyware.com/
Spybot Search and Destroy
http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
Spywareblaster (Free Version)
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Free security suites like Microsoft Security Essentials are available as well but keep in mind some free suites are limited to some extent.
Free security apps (Malwarebytes, SAS) all require user to update and scanning, no real-time protection.

A good choice dwp. I personally use Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy free versions…they are excellent programs for cleaning your pc of malware, spyware, etc and come highly recommended.

Spybot has a ton of extra options under Advanced, be careful though as some can mess things up if used incorrectly but are handy to have. It’s also getting an update soon, think it’s in late BETA.

Not a security app but handy none the less.
FileHippo Update Checker
http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/

It will scan your machine and if any apps you use are on FH servers then it will show you what’s updated and a link to download.

Another excellent anti-malware program from IObit…i have also been using this for about a year now.

Thanks VonWeyer, always good to have some extra options.

Lavasoft is supposedly pretty good at well. But Superantispyware actually took crap off my computer that nothing else I had found at the time, including Micro$oft’s suite…

I tried Lavasoft adaware but found it limited in free user mode. It is a bit surprising but MS Defender did save my rear once before, pity their old One Care wasn’t as good, it left everything and its clone on to my pc.

thanks for sharing this
