Pictures - Can anyone help with History of them.

Hi All
I was givent hese two pictures a few weeks back. They were found in a little box in a loft of a friends grandparent who passed away.
Nothing else was in the box, just these two little photos approx 2 in x 3 in.
I would be greatful if anyone could shed any light on them.

Ps…1st Photo back row, check out the guy with the little moustache. (I know its not Hitler but hes the spitting image of him)

The left photo shows a bunch of army (Heer) soldiers celebrating the new year. That’s exactly what’s written on the back: “New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day 1939/1940”. Maybe you can make out the regimental number on the shoulder patches of the guy in the front?

The other photo shows two Luftwaffe (air force) Gefreiter and one Obergefreiter obviously while boozing as well. Unfortunately I’m unable to decipher the old-German writing but it certainly mentions a place name and the year 1942.
