Recommended for VC, MOH, got neither

RAAF pilot recommended by US commaders in Vietnam for Congressional Medal of Honor was denied it as not US citizen and denied Victoria Cross as recommended by US officers who weren’t Australian officers.

Despite fighting off enemy and killing 10 to save wounded US colonel and then killing another two enemy by clubbing them with his empty pistol on the way to the rescue helicopter.

Then usual Australian Government and bureacracy bullshit as US officers tried to get him the award he deserved.

Just typical of rules and regs. This happens more often than you think. In a way it is similar to “special forces” operations that have no way to be commended for their actions as at times they were “never there”.

The VC is a very hard medal to have approved.

Maybe the UN could sanction a similar multi national medal suitable for events such as this.

Just my opinion.
