Roundup at Bydgoszcz, Poland, 1939.

Bydgoszcz, Poland, 1939 - group of civilians detained by the German invaders in the Old Market Place. Notable in the front ranks of this group is a number of Roman Catholic priests. While the policy of rounding up Catholic priests seems to have been somewhat haphazard, these men were important community leaders in 1930s Poland, which made them targets for detention for the German authorities. Many priests were consigned to concentration camps. There, they were subject to particular ill-treatment, including being made subject to involuntary human vivisection. Some of those who survived suffered the after-effects of these experiments for the remainder of their lives. JR.

I have a friend who was born and raised in Communist Poland. Their Priests were not treated much better under the Communists.
