Royal Engineers WW2

Hi to all, my name is Peter Saunders and I am a new member, I was in the Royal Anglia Regiment many many years ago, but my interest in the R E is through my father in law, John Thomas Hughes, known as Tom, he passed away about 30 years ago and I have little info on him apart from he served in the 933 P.C.& R. Coy R. E. and was in WW2. I am trying to find out if he could have been in the Berchtesgaden area in the final days of WW2, just a brief reason for wanting to find this out, he gave us a writing folder that we understand came from Berchtesgaden with the initials J.G on the front, but the most interesting part of this is what the padding is made out of. Any info on movements around that time would be most appreciated, if you would like more info on this folder I am more than willing to share it with you. Also he served in North West Europe for about 2 years, would any one know if they had R & R and if they would have gone back to England for that. Many thanks Pete
