Royal Marines with unknown MG

Somebody knows more about this machine gun - or is it an rifle rest?

Any trace about the time this foto was made ?

.

Look more like Royal Navy than Royal Marines to me - the RN frequently sent landing parties ashore at the time this photo would have been taken, even arming them with cutlasses into WW1 (indeed, I can think of at least one incident where cutlasses were used in repelling boarders during WW1).

Maybe is just me but those rifles dont look like Enfields.

The Royal Navy has jad japanese Arisakas in WW. 1 -

The photo is pre-WW1, they appear to be armed with the Lee-Metford rifle, which was used before the Lee-Enfield by the Royal Navy

I can’t be 100% sure but it doesn’t appear to be a MG, but a rifle stand of some kind, with a Lee-Metford rifle fitted to it

Well thats possible - Thanks for the help Redcoat.

Definately is not an MG, and thanks for the info about rifles.
