Great story. Clark Gable was good in the movie which did a very accurate job of depicting the approaches but the book is a better story - die Bungo die.

I enjoyed the book greatly, as I did the follow-up “Submarine!” which detailed various exploits of other USN subs during the Second World War.
“Submarine!” does take a little “artistic licence” with some things, but over-all, is a damn good read, though not quite up to the standards of “Run Silent, Run Deep.”
Beach’s other books, on post-war submarines are also good reads, for example “Trident”, about USNS Nautilus sister sub.
Kind Regards, Uyraell.
