Russian crewmen

Russian crewmen who either succumbed to their wounds outside their knocked out tank, or who were shoot by German infantry when they climbed out. Two possibilities.

Rather mounted infantry, note helmet and rifles on the ground.

Given the helmets, the rifles and the fact that the bodies are all grouped at the rear of the tank, I’m more inclined to believe in a 3rd possibility: That these where infantrymen, killed while ridding on the back of what seems to be a T-26S light tank. The T-26 might help restrict this photo’s date to no later then 1942.
