“The Sacred War” Translated. It was a very popular song during WWII, and represented the Great Patriotic War to the Soviets. It was played for the first time on June 23rd, 1941, one day after the Germans had invaded, in a train station in Moscow as troops loaded the trains for the front.

The Sacred War ( Svyaschennaya voyna) is an inspirational song famously performed by the Alexander Vasilyevich Alexandrov Red Army Choir that motivated millions of Soviet soldiers to surge forward in the titanic struggle against the German Wehrmacht and satellite armies during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). This clip is taken from the Soviet movie Bitva za Moskvu (Battle for Moscow).

Thank you dear George for the care avbout this thread ( like always) you give us the good infor and links.

You’re very welcome Chevan,

I’m glad you like it. I first became aware of many of these songs in the late 1970’s while visiting an aunt and cousins in the Netherlands. My uncle (husband and father to this family) had died in a car accident in 1967, but part of what he had left behind was a nice vinyl LP collection of traditional Russian songs performed by the Don Cossack Choir. I liked the haunting beauty of many of the songs. They have such a soulful sound.

The patriotic songs have so much emotion. It reminds me of how much the Russian people and others of the former Soviet Union suffered during the war.

Oh yea the patriotic war is very emotional.Especialy the Sacred war.
The whole state lives and fought with those songs for 4 years.
I like too the some of them ( Katusha, We need only the Victory and ets).
I have the collections of such song on CD ( 10 songs).
Somethimes i hear it - it helps to feel the patriotic feelings.
One of my last experiment was to change the stoopid soundtrack backgroung in Il-2:Pacific fighters ( from my gold collecttion) for the “Sacred war”- the resault was great;)
Later i changel ALL the soundtrack for the CallOfDuty2 soundtrack ( including the background music in flight).
You know it sounds very impressive. When i prepeared the mission - The Sacred War fill me feels to a shoot the Me109, and when i/m shoting them the brilliand CallOfDuty2 motives sounds.

Just try to do the same when yo will play in Il-2.

Some of my favorites are Stenka Rasin, Legend of the Twelve Robbers, Across the Valleys and the Mountains (Partisan Song), The Sun Set Behind a Mountain, On The March, Suliko, Moscow Nights, Volga Boat Song, Katusha and The Sacred War. The song Katusha was featured in the American movie The Deer Hunter (1979 ).

I will have to try that on the soundtrack for IL-2. Music does play a part in setting the right mood and recreating the ambiance of the period. I had customized my old CS-2 Simulator too - mostly the graphics, special effects and sound effects (ie: machine guns, cannons, engine sounds, etc.) The music will be a new one for me. I also have CallOfDuty and COD2.

Thanks for the tip on the music. I will try it in IL-2 and COD/COD2. Great idea.

Does anyone know the name of this one. I have looked all over without finding it. It seems to be a very tricky one. It is from the May Day Parade in 1941.
