Sir Arthur Harris

Just read some Chapters in Bomber Offensive from 1947(by Sir Arthur Harris), and find his that his arguments for the Airwar is quite god.

Actually did the Bombings of Hamburg d. 27.-28. juli really scare the Germans. Albert Spear reported to Hitler that six more Bombing raids like the one in Hamburg on further German cities, would drastically shorten the war.

But as we know today did the Allied not perform many of those mega bombing
raids, who had the same effect as the one against Hamburg.

Managing to raise the firestorm proved to be quite difficult. The need for HE to break the buildings open, incendiaries to set the debris alight, then more HE to kill the firemen and the air raid wardens plus suitably combustible towns and preferably a spell of dry weather meant it wasn’t achieved very often. Some targets like Berlin were just too big, too far away and too well defended.

Um, I don’t know if you think you are being in anyway original with this topic, but it has been covered in the thread you failed to search for.
