Two phrases sprig to mind:
-
There is no such thing as ‘too much gun.’
-
Shot placement is everything !
Plus of course the Seven P’s.

You’re not kidding, Cuts. Looks like the shots were fine when the lion was fairly stationary and after he retreated, but when he charged after the first hit was a different story. Accuracy while under pressure really dropped off.
First shot while lion was almost stationary - hits - wounding the lion. Hunters move to new position. Wounded lion charges - fast. Second and third shots miss. Fourth shot also misses as lion knocks hunter off his feet. Lion flips and begins moving other direction. Meanwhile fifth and sixth shots miss. Lion retreats toward direction from which he came. Seventh shot brings lion down after he retreats. Eighth shot may have finished him off, if he wasn’t dead already.
Sounded like someone was speaking Afrikaans in backgound after all the commotion. One of the accents sounded American. Guides may have been South African.
Seven P’s - Proper planning and preparation prevents piss-poor performance.
What a buch of morons… Wich calibers they are shoting… ? for the skinny rifle barrel it looks like a .30 ( 300 winchester magnum maybe) no more…What a hell they think ? that they going to kill a Mule deer? they could be easily killed.
Using a rifle with less bore than .400 for the african hunting is simply looking for trouble.
Idiots, they where just stupid, one of them deserved to be ravaged by a lion to smarten him up.

I don’t know what caliber they were shooting. But that first hit just seemed to piss that lion off really bad. Made for some pretty exciting video though.
Inexperienced hunters, poor shot placement & a guide who was unprepared for the unexpected - they were lucky to escape without serious injury.
When you’re going to shoot an animal, then FFS show some decency by making it a clean kill.
