Soldiers from the 33rd Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS Charlemagne (1st French) and Charlemagne Regiment. They were French volunteers in the Wehrmacht and later Waffen-SS during World War II.

I have seen another caption stating that these SS soldiers are engaged in the 1940 campaign in the west. (Note the C96 "broomhandle " Mauser below the belt buckle of the soldier on the right.)
