Sunk by British submarine Rorqual, the last day of march 1941. All the crew lost. His commander, Lieutnant Romeo Romei, received the Gold Medal to the memory.

This view shows the excessively large conning tower typical of Italian submarines. When some were deployed to France to work with the Germans, Doenitz had all their towers reduced in size because they were too conspicuous when surfaced and caused too much drag when submerged.
