Sonderverband Graukopf

Special unit Graukopf (grey head): Soviet deserters/defectors fighting for the Germans wearing still wearing their Red Army uniforms plus shoulder straps. These men were used by the Germans for commando actions against encircled Red Army forces. In the foreground the commander of the unit, Sergey Nikitich Ivanov, a white emigrant. Ivanov was ordered back to Berlin in 1943, his further fate is unknown.
