SPAMMING PROBLEM

Due to the increase of spammers joining the site…I would like to call on all members to help combat this by reporting them as soon as they are seen. Therefore we can ban them very quickly. Although the staff does catch most of them there could be some we miss. Please help out! This is not only for the site but for your safety as well. Thanks

This seems to be on the increase on all the main military boards/forums at present. Very sad

I’m on the look out, I came across about three last week. Did they all come from the same I.P.?

They seem to be pretty random.

I would personally like to thank those that have helped with combating the spamming problems recently. I have emailed ww2admin to see if he has any other ideas on how to combats this problem as is annoying.

But please dont be afraid to email the staff when you see suspected spam. Again not just for the site but for our members safety as well. Alot of the links seem harmless but who know what actually could be in store. I suggest not opening them personally but do so at your own risk.

Please keep up the good effort. I would like to personally thank Cuts and SSTiger for their efforts. Sorry if i missed others. Maybe there is a medal for you in the future in i can comeup with one. Site Defense is a very important issue that we must all work together on!

Anyhow thanks again.

Yes, I like to thank SSTiger also for your help.

Today I had to delete quickly two new “topics” because his sexual content. :?

Another thanks to the vigilance of 1000 yd stare for spotting not only direct Spammers but subtle ones as well.

I would like to emphasise what Gen S said and also 1000 yd said on another deleted thread - open any link at your peril if you value your PC’s safety.

Sorry for i posting here, but can you explain me what spamming problem ,members spamm on threads or pop-up windows that is very boring all time i have millions warnings: you have virus, you have 2 messages in your mailbox…

People have been starting threads with links to sites that have nothing to do with the section they are in, like sites selling womens cycle helmets in a military section, just making up pointless threads or trying to scam people. The mods seem to be doing a good job at deleting them as they appear so you may not have noticed them. If you see any threads like this inform a mod.

As for your ad windows that come saying you have viruses and mail messages never click them. Try downloading and running this, if you have not got it already http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/

Thanks Tiger i alredy have adaware and spy bot, also PsySubstrakt and Panda AV.

The reason for the “pointless” posts is that the more links you have leading to your page/site from other sites, the higher up the Google rankings your page will rise.

This leads to a better hit rate given that most Google users will tend to click on the first few results.

The usual thing to do would be to delete the thread and user account.

jqnyqpquya seems to be a spammer, his/her site is a link to a porn site by the looks of things. Mods have PMs

And i also send FF PM with link of cheat-casino member who have topic about cheating in casino’s :? in Off Topic Militaria section.

FW and I have finally decided to “bite the bullet” and delete all the 0 post members. So you will notice that the number of site members will go down drastically over the next couple of days. Also we have seen a pattern to the spammers and have tried to fix this the best we can…so they cant join the site. Once we finish with the 0 posts we hope to shut off the admim member approval. Im sure we will still get spammers so be on the lookout when we announce the option has been turned off and members will activate themselves. If you see a spam post/dangerous link report it to a mod for deletion and the admins will follow up with the ban. Thanks for your help!

At the moment all 0 post (exception of newbies) members are gone…the process sucked but will now be much easier to control hopefully. Hopefullly we can reopen the forum to general addmission soon!

It seems the number of spammers joining the forum is on the increase, do you want the spam users who join to be reported or do you only want to know if they post a spam thread?

well, we have a system to approve members before they can join
i dont know how this work though, only Gen. Sandworm is been doing this thing for a while
i hope Gen. sandworm can show me where

if some spam poster was able to slip through, of course we are more than welcome to have you report to us

Added by Dani: FW was talking about spamming threads.

Due to some reasons, the admin approval was reseted between 23rd of May and 7th of June. Therefore a lot of spammers were able to join freely. In this moment you are requested to report ONLY the spamming threads.
Thank you.
