SS Soldiers about to be executed

Five SS men in civilian clothing are forced to walk among the corpses of prisoners exhumed from a mass grave near Nammering. The men had changed into civilian clothes in an unsuccessful attempt to evade capture. According to the photographer, they were killed by U.S. troops just after this photo was taken.

We really don’t know the context of this photo, and the “execution” is based on hearsay of a caption supposedly quoting a photog.

In any case, their summary execution wasn’t right if it happened, and they at least deserved a trial. Even if they were cowards who tried to evade their status and responsibility as one of Hitler’s sworn guardsmen by becoming “spies” and donning civilian attire.
