Strange camo??

This is the strangest camo on a plane I have come across till now.B-24D Liberator lead assembly ship'Barber Bob' of 93 rd Bomber Group,US 328th Bomber Squadron based at Ternia,Libya,Jul/Aug 1943.I found a colored version also.See next post. Greetz,Brummbar

These type of brightly colored planes were used to form up the group before heading out on a mission.Note all guns are removed.Nice find Brummbar

Am I right that ‘lead assembly ship’ means that the other planes in the bomberstream use this aircraft as marker to converge upon?
