Strange war booty

Saddles captured from the Germans at Stalingrad.One wonders why so much saddles were used in the first place during a battle in urban conditions.That horses were used for transport and later on as food is quiet clear but I susprct,officers strolling around on horseback is a bit unexpected in Stalingrad conditions? taken from fb/Shadows of the eastern front

The Romanians had cavalry units on the eastern front, but they held mainly non-urban territory. (Despite misconceptions, Hungarians did not serve on the Volga, but were instead deployed 200-300 miles south on the Don river.)
