Sometimes people show old WW2 german photographs with impossible to read text.
Mostly it turns out it isn’t simply old handwriting, but it is socalled Sütterlin Schrift.

Yes, Sutterlin is a bit of a pain. Ironic that it emerged from a commission from the Prussian Education Ministry to develop a more modern, legible version of older German scripts. I actually find it a lot more difficult to read than 12th century Law Latin script - even allowing for the Latin. One area in which it is frequently encountered in photos is in late-war cuff titles of the “Grossdeutschland” Division. Best regards, JR.
