The special bombs of I./KG 100

Later KC holder Oberleutnant Rudolf Metzig (1921-1944) in front of one of I./KG 100's special bombs used against the wooden bridges of Kerch and Crimea peninsulas/Ukraine. Head and tail of the BM 1000, inbetween two welded 200 liter barrels of fuel, ignition with help of two incendiary bombs attached on the side of the barrel.

The BM 1000 (Bombenmine 1000, 2,205 pounds) was originally an air-dropped antiship mine usually deployed by a Heinkel He-115 seaplane or a He-111. When used against land targets, a tail fin made out of bakelite was added, as seen in this picture, to control it’s downward trajectory. The blast effects on land were tremendous.
