I am the host/editor of a podcast called “From Maclay to Zama.” It is a weekly audio series based entirely on a collection of real, newly uncovered letters sent home by two Harrisburg, PA sisters during the early 1950s working for the Army. The sisters were living at Camp Zama in Kanagawa, Japan, during the height of the Korean War.
Through their raw, firsthand correspondence back to Maclay Street, the podcast explores a fascinating slice of history: what it was like for young American women navigating post-WWII occupation, local Japanese culture, and the anxieties of a nearby war. It’s a unique blend of local Central PA heritage and major global history.
