Of course many aspects of the Tiger II are subject to criticism regarding its design value. Yet how come the Panther tank seems to many the best German design, even contesting the title of best design of WWII, while even the Tiger II is reported as being “reliable” in contrast to the Panther…
A major failing of the Panther was its weak drive train particularly its final drives - the Tiger 2 used the type favoured originally for the Panther but deemed to costly and difficult to produce iirc.
