Does anyone recognize this patch? It was in with my grandfathers’ patches from WWII, but he also had some German patches so I don’t know if it is American or not.

I think we can confidently exclude the German option.
These are patches of 8° Rgmt. of Italian Alpini (Mountain Troops). These particular patches probably come from a combat uniform, since the one from the traditional cap has different shape. (see the Eisenhower picture with an alpini cap). Best regards.
