US army high attrition rate. Life magazine, Jan 45 article

Very interesting article about high rate of attrition on army vehicles, tires, etc. and the lack of heavy artillery shells. The pictures speak for themselves.
Exemple of figures:
“In november (44), American forces expended 1,147,322 rounds of105 mm howitzer and 38, 498 rounds of 8 inch and 240 mm ammunition”
Enjoy!

Very interesting indeed.

Much is said in these forums about the deeds of the combat troops but the logistical chain to support the front line troops is huge but seldom mentioned.

It has always been the same throughout history. I remember reading about the British Army moving in to Afghanistan in the 18th Century. Each soldier had a baggage train of about 20 camels worth of supplies! It’s probably not much different for the British soldier in Afghanistan today (except camels will be AGC staff etc instead).
