US troops in the Vosges mountains

A US reinforcement colomn moves up front in the Vosges mountains/France by horses (!!!). I don't know too many photos where the US Army depended on horses.

Could they be French soldiers/skirmishers from the RTA (Régiment de Tirailleurs Algériens) or RTM (Régiment de Tirailleurs Marocains)? I know they used a whole bunch of mules as they were more appropriate than any motor vehicle on this steep terrain.

yes, i heard tales where the GI’s laughed at the idea and then soon were looking for every one they could find
