I saw in the movie battle of the bulge that they talk about a new wonder tank produced by the germans called a king tiger tank? Was there such a tank what was the differance between it and the Panzer VI tiger SD. KFZ.181:confused:
Oh, thats just a M-47 patton used in the movie as King tigrs.
actual King Tiger (Bengal Tiger)
The movie (model)
yes there was and it was a great tank
But it was not the surprise āwonder tankā that the movie made it out to be there were King Tigers in combat in Normandy so it was no great surpriseā¦
well, that movie was pretty inaccurate.
LOL That Sir is an understatement of major proportions. :D:roll:
Ok. let me rephrase it. That movie is crap historicaly, but it was a jolly good motion picture.
M1 Garands donāt even have rear sights in that movie, if you look close when Henry Fonda is aiming at the bridge.
So many inaccuracies in that movie, where do you start?
Given the spectacular marksmanship in movies, especially with that modern oddity of firing pistols when held sideways, I canāt imagine why any actor would need any sights.
Or perhaps they remove sights to reduce the chances of accidents on the set.
It is protocol in movie making to not aim at your ātargetā while movie blanks are relatively safe, they are considered dangerous to people within 25 to 30 feet when used in a rifle. So the rule is aim away from your intended target, so no one gets hurt. Some actors have been injured, and one killed by being careless with stage weapons using blanks. It does sometimes really show as outlined above, but you know, bridges can be sneaky,
the kingtiger was a much more powerfull tank thenthe tiger 1 and its armor was sloped wich made id twice as effectif the sherman couldnt penetrate it exept the back of the tank. there where about 500 kt and they sufferd mechanical breakdowns. so they where used in germany as defences not for attack. however many where sent to the battle of the bulge( not al of them ofcource) couple of things that could destroy a kingtiger (front armor)- m36 slugger, js1,2,3 and aircraft bombs. the m26 could do that but it came to late in the war to prove itself. (m26 was equal to tiger 1 but the armor was better due its sloped)
The āPattonā tanks were used as german tanks in several US- warmovies, just to name āThe Battle of the Bulgeā and āPattonā.
in patton, all the tanks were pattons:D
Right, Major. Now as youāre saying it (-: Yellow Pattons against green Pattons!!! This movie still rules!!!
you cant rely on the movies accuracy. i watched a sci-fi movie over the weekend where they were using a old m-3 grant to kill the monster, and it was some east european made up country
This is not unusal these days even with high budget Hollywood movies like āSaving Private Ryanā. During the fight at this bridge at the end of the movie, Spielberg sold actually a swedish tank hunter for a german to us.
The tank in question is an M47 patton which was the standard american MBT during the 1950-1960 when the movie was made.
For the later hollywood movies theyb usually use an old T34 hull which is still very much available in eastern europe today and buid up a suitable superstructure on top.
You should watch the russian movie āKurskā where german tanks are everything from cardboard cut-outs on cars to T-34s and T-55s, thereās even an agricultural tractor with a piece of a pipe sticking out of the front window in the backdrop, iāll upload it on youtube.
