“Long live Mussolini,” reads the sign. Horthy’s Hungary relied on Italy for making arm purchases for a while. High hopes were pinned on Il Duce for his support of Hungarian irredentism, and Mussolini delivered at the Vienna arbitration meetings of 1938 and 1940. Rome was also seen as a counterweight to Berlin within the Axis, but this hope soon faded away. Thanks, DVX.
