A lady on my photo forum posted this photo up that she scanned from her fathers photo collection. She isnt sure what aircraft it is. Any ideas? Her father was a Pilot Officer in the South African Air Force. There is also a photo of him in what looks like an RAF uniform.
They seem to be Avro Oxford… very similar to the Anson
I googled Avro Oxford but it actually called a Airspeed Oxford.
Thanks for the info and pointing me in the right direction. Here is some more information I found out about the Oxford:
The Oxford, built to Specification T.23/36, was based on Airspeed’s commercial 8-seater aircraft, the Airspeed AS.6 Envoy. Seven of these had been modified for the South African Air Force as the “Convertible Envoy”, which could be equipped at short notice with a single machine-gun in a hand-operated Armstrong Whitworth dorsal turret, and with bomb racks.
It seems Bomber Command used them as training aircraft for the big bombers.
