Always interested what was the terms for giving someone EK1, EK2 or a Knight’s Cross etc.
How many tanks destroy or how many battle must win to earn the German badges?
Someone know these options?
Thanks for your answers!
Hello, imi. A useful site for this sort of stuff is http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com. This is really a collectors’ site, and seems to be undergoing some reconstruction lately (not just lately, actually), making it a bit difficult to navigate effectively. However, it does contain quite a lot of information of this sort regarding Wehrmacht decorations and awards. Best regards, JR.
Hi Imi. Although hard to say exactly for other branches (Heer), for Luftwaffe fighter pilots to be a recipient of Knight’s Cross one would require to have scored 20 “points”. 1 point was granted for shooting down a single engine enemy plane, 2 for a twin engine plane, 3 for a 4 engine plane. All these points were doubled in case of night combat. For Kriegsmarine a UBoot Captain would qualify for a RK if had sunk 100k tons of enemy shipping.
As some trivia notes: The only WW2 German combatant to be awarded the RK with Golden Oak Leaves Swords and Diamonds (highest RK except the Grand Cross awarded to Goering but for non combat) was Luftwaffe Oberst Hans-Ulrich Rudel. He had a tally of 516 (all soviet) tanks destroyed (he was a bomber pilot) and about 2530 missions flown (still a world record).
thanks JR, i am a member there also for a while, as collectors maybe they better known this informations!
this is what I tought exactly, thanks for the info!
