Which setback hurt the Japanese the most? Was it losing four carriers at the Battle of Midway, or the death of Admiral Yamamoto?

My opinion:
Both were heavy setbacks but the loss of four badly needed carriers changed the war more. A fleet carrier needed at least 2 years to be planned and built. Able commanders were easier to get, especially in wartime.
Maybe the war had even lasted shorter with Yamamoto´s influence…

Thanks tom! That is a very valid point and I tend to agree with you. But what remains in the back of my mind is that Admiral Yamamoto was educated here in the States, so he knew the American way of thinking. He understood us better than any other Japanese commander, so I don’t think he was ever adequately replaced.
