Can anyone tell me something about this image? Where is it? When was it taken? etc… It is used as the box cover photograph for The World At War DVD series.
Thank you,

It is the Genbaku dome at Hiroshima.
Wow. I assumed it was in Germany somewhere. And I had assumed those were B-17’s in the background.
Thank you for the post.
No worries,I also thought of Dresden first.
I actualy went to ground zero at hiroshima… he dome was actualy warped a bit from the sheer force of the bomb.
some day ill add that series to my collection. its available on A&E and the price has dropped. and it still comes with the same cover
it was released in 1974. and im surprised A&E or the history channel has not run it. i haven’t seen it for years.
It’s been run by UKTV History back to back last weekend.
But yeah it’s a fantastic documentary with so many footages and interviews.
I just ordered the DVD series. about 5-7 days for delivery. done !!!
I have owned this series for quite some time now…
I have enjoyed watching it several times, but it’s getting dated…
Is there a different series, besides " a century of warfare", which I could also appreciate on the same level ?
I’v looked at the International historic films selection, but nothing comprehensive there…
a lot of the material for the world at war came from the imperial war museum. take a look
The old ‘Battleline’ series from the '60’s was very interesting and fairly accurate. Some unique footage if memory serves.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0164996/
It may be obtainable.
There was another British series which featured a lot of Brian Horrocks - Montgomery’s depty commander. Can’t remember the title though. He was knowledgeable of N. Africa and NW Europe.
There are some good Canadian (CBC) documentary series and films as well.
Kamehouse, that’s an interesting photo you’re posting. Know anything about it?
its all VHS tape. wonder if they’ll convert to DVD???
You mean my signature pic?
It’s from the Großdeutschland division.I just like the expression of the two soldiers. They seem completely lost in the middle of this abandoned materiel.
I wonder where/when it was taken?
Those three guns look like Russian 76.2’s. The Tiger isn’t abandoned, there appears to be the radioman closing his hatch. It also has the canvas muzzle cover on its 88.
The right background shows what appears to be multi-level blocks of buildings. The new-looking Tiger 1, the ‘metalled’ road, the guns and the buildings, foliage on trees - Karachev 1943?
I may be able to have more info at home.Unfortunately I am in my parents house for Christmas/new year.
it looks more like stalingrad to me
“it looks more like stalingrad to me”
