WW I Films

Any advice on some good WW I films. I have All Quiet on the Western Front.

merry christmas

Paths of Glory (Stanley Kubrik, 1957) is supposedly very good although I haven’t seen it myself.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0050825/

Is a good one. Reccomend it to all.

Paths of Glory gets my vote too

For WW1 related humor I would recommend TV-Series “Blackadder Goes Forth” (Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry).

Anyone seen “Company K”?

Not sure if it applies to the other guys here, but the particular bit of the British Army I’m in tends to quote Blackadder IV a great deal.

Melchett: Fine body of men you’ve got there Blackadder!
Blackadder: Yes sir, soon to become fine bodies of men.

“The Trench” is a good one. Also “the Lost Battalion”.

That programme was done very well, especially the way they finished the series, very moving.

Thanx for your feedback guy’s.
Let’s see what Father Christmas brings me!

And here you got another…

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyeux_Noël

Just remembered another one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0344510/
A Very Long Engagement - supposedly fairly good, came out a year or two back.

Brilliant post’s guys.
I would love to get my hands on some of those documentaries.

Where as hundreds of World War II movies have been made, the category of World War I films is a rather small one. However, while doing a little research I found out that nearly 100 films (including made-for-tv and mini-series) are available on vhs or dvd. So, I’ve listed the first half below in alphabetical order. I’ve included movies that cover the WW1 era as well as the Russian Revolution. I hope this guide will be helpful to those who are curious about this neglected genre of war movies. Part 2 will be here soon. Enjoy!

This is part two of my list covering nearly 100 movies (including tv shows & mini-series) that deal with the Great War. Be aware that I’ve also included movies about the Russian Revolution. I hope this will help those who are curious about this neglected genre of war movies. Enjoy!

I watched this film on DVD about a week ago. I thought it was well done. Very touching, especially toward the end.

Thanx for the feedback.

I agree. Joyeux Noel was a spectacular film in my oppinion. I highly reccommend it to everyone.

Excellent film that serves as an allegory for the breakdown in the French Army by 1916, and perhaps to some extent for every army --for better or worse…

A must see for any aspiring officer…

I think the above may be one of my favorite films of all time…
