Didn’t the Soviets keep an entire Armoured division in Moscow for ceremonial duties? I’ve got a vague feeling it’s still there as the Tamanskaya or something, with their main role being drill and their secondary role being shooting at parliament if the MPs start getting funny ideas like they might be living in a democracy.
